The Limerick Writers' Centre Presents The April 2016 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering Tuesday 5 th April 2016 @ The Loft Venue @ The Locke Bar, Georges Quay, Limerick. Start 8.00pm sharp! This month guests are poet Daragh Bradish and poet and author Gerry Hanberry Daragh Bradish was born and raised in Terenure, Dublin. He spent his formative years in Bray, County Wicklow.  Studied fine arts and history in TCD. In recent years he has spent a great deal of time in Liscannor, County Clare.  Coming late to seriously writing, his first published poem was in Revival #18. He has since been published in journals in Ireland, UK and in Europe. Easter in March is first collection and is published by Liberty Press. Daragh has coordinated the Soundings for Simon readings to raise funds for Dublin Simon each year since 2010. The Limerick Writers' Centre Presents The February 2016 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering Tuesday 2nd Feb 2016 @ The Loft Venue @ The Locke Bar, Georges Quay, Limerick. Start 8.00pm sharp! This month we present the first of our 1916 commemoration events with a performance of: Breakfast with Padraig By Colm Scully and Conor McManus “Breakfast with Padraig” is a Spoken Word performance lasting 50 minutes. It includes original stories and poems about 1916 from Conor and Colm. It includes poetry from Thomas McDonagh. These are performed live, to an accompanying filmed backdrop where the rising is discussed on themes of prelude, event and reflection. This discussion is tempered with song, personal experience and humour. It is apolitical and non-judgemental, rather raising questions and strands of thought that may enlighten and urge the audience to think more deeply about the reasons for and ramifications of the Rising. This months guests are writers Mike Gallagher and John McGrath. Mike Gallagher , writer, poet and editor, was born on Achill Island and worked in London for forty years before retiring to Kerry. His prose, poetry, haiku and songs have been published in Ireland and throughout Europe, America, Australia, Nepal, India, Thailand, Japan and Canada. His writing has been translated into Croatian, Japanese, Dutch, German and Chinese. He won the 2009 Samhlaiocht Slam, the 2010 Michael Hartnett Viva Voce competition, he was shortlisted for the Hennessy Award in 2011 and won the Desmond O'Grady International Poetry Contest in 2012. Anne Marie Kennedy , has an MA in Writing from NUI Galway and is the winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2014. She is an award winning performance poet. This months guests are Cork poet Patricia Walsh and poet Mícheál O’Siochrú. Mícheál O’Siochrú is a native of Baile an Sceilg Gaeltacht, South Kerry. He has written extensively in the Irish language and has had two collections of poetry and a novel published by Coiscéim. His poetry has won various Oireachtas prizes as well as first prize at Listowel Writers’ Week. A renowned Irish teacher, he has taught in Rosary Hill and Vocational School, Castleconnell, Co Limerick, in Villiers, St. Clement’s and Limerick Tutorial Colleges as well as in Mary Immaculate College. This month our guests are John W Sexton, Louis Mulcahy and Deirdre Hynes PLUS a 10 minute Play and Open-Mic. Deirdre Hines was born in Liverpool. She moved to Belfast shortly thereafter, and from there to Letterkenny in Co. Donegal, where she now lives. She graduated from Trinity in 1989 with a double honours degree in English and Theatre Studies. She has written several plays, of which “Howling Moons, Silent Sons” won the Stewart Parker Award fro Best New Play in 1992. She was short listed for the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2010, and won the Listowel Poetry Collection in 2011. This month launch of Revival Literary Journal No.25 plus guest readers Fred Johnston and Mark Roper and open-mic. Fred Johnston was born in Belfast Northern Ireland,.educated there and Toronto, Canada, lived for a time in Spain and Africa and after that in Dublin. Currently he lives in Galway. He is author of a collection of stories from Parthian (Wales) 2011; and ‘Orangeman’, a collection of stories in French, from Terre de Brume (France) 2010. Johnston worked as a fulltime journalist, writer and sub-editor for some years for Irish Press. He teaches Creative Writing at NUIG (Adult Education).
