The May 2015 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering

This months guests are poets Ann Marie Kennedy and Evan Cosigan and special guest from the USA Robert Fanning.
Anne Marie Kennedy, has an MA in Writing from NUI Galway and is the winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Award 2014. She is an award winning performance poet. Her prose and poetry has been published in ROPES, Blackheart Magazine, the Colony, the Galway Review, Irish Central, the SHOp,and Boyne Berries among others.
A regular contributor and twice winner of the People’s Choice Award at Baffle Poetry Festival, Loughrea, she qualified at the Cúirt Poetry Grand Slam, to perform at Electric Picnic.
She has had work broadcast on Sunday Miscellany,freelances for Irish Music Magazine and is a regular contributor at the Moth and Butterfly storyteller’s nights in Galway city.
‘Is that a Galway accent?’ is the working title of her forthcoming short story collection.
Evan Costiganhas had poems published in New Irish Writing, Burning Bush 2, Cyphers, The Moth, Cúirt Annual, Census 3 Anthology and elsewhere. Shortlisted for this year’s Hennessy Literary Awards, he won the 2012 Francis Ledwidge International Poetry Award and has been shortlisted in numerous competitions, including: the Listowel Writers’ Week Single Poem Competition,Bridport Prize, Over the Edge Competition and Red Line Poetry Competition. The recipient of a poetry bursary from Kildare County Council Arts Office, he has been a featured reader at poetry festivals and events in Japan, Canada and New Zealand.
His fiction has appeared in journals and magazines, broadcast on RTE’s Sunday Miscellanyprogramme and has been placed in national competitions. His travel articles have been published in The Irish Times, Sunday Business Post, Get Lost! and Outsider.
He has lived abroad for long periods – in South America, Australia, Japan and Canada – and just recently returned to Ireland. He resides in Dublin.
Robert
Fanning is the author of two full-length
poetry collections, American Prophet
and The Seed Thieves and one chapbook entitled Old Bright Wheel.
His poems have appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, Shenandoah, The Atlanta Review, Rattle, The Cortland Review and
other journals. His work has been featured on the nationally-syndicated radio
program The Writer's Almanac with Garrison Keillor, and he was recently a
featured poet interviewed at the Library of Congress for the national public
radio program, The Poet and the Poem. He is an Associate Professor of
Creative Writing at Central Michigan University and lives in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
with his wife, sculptor Denise Whitebread Fanning, and their two children.
