The Limerick Writers’ Centre presents
July 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering
Upstairs@Riddler’s Bar, Sarsfield St, Limerick
Tues. 3rd July 2012 8.00pm
This month our guest readers are:
Patricia Byrne, Terry McDonagh and in association with Foras na Gaeilge Shaun Leonard
Plus Gabhar Theatre Co return with another 10 Minute Play followed by an Open-Mic.
Organised by The Limerick Writers' Centre this popular monthly reading and open-mic continues to attract audiences with a mix of poetry, prose and music.
Patricia Byrne was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and currently lives in Limerick. She writes poetry, fiction and nonfiction and holds an MA in Writing from NUI Galway. Her interest in the nineteenth-century atrocity, which is the subject of her book The Veiled Woman of Achill, arose out of family history: her great granduncle served as a friar in Achill Island at the time and wrote a contemporary narrative of the dramatic events.
Terry McDonagh from Mayo is a poet and dramatist of international acclaim. He has published several collections of poetry and a novel for young people and has been writer in residence in Australia, Asia, several European countries and Ireland, where he was resident writer in Coole Park in Galway early this year. His work has been translated into German and Indonesian and he was runner up in the Fish Poetry Prize 2006.

Shaun Leonard was the Cúirt Festival Poetry Grandslam Winner 2012 and has just completed his BA Connect with Creative Writing in NUI Galway. Shaun was also one of the winners of the North Beach Poetry Grandslam in December and is an award-winning screenwriter. Shaun started out writing for the stage and tries to infuse his performances with an element of theatre and character. His first self-styled event The Tribal Lyric will take place in Galway as part of the Galway Fringe Festival from the 15th to the 18th of July in NUIG. Looking to perform as much as possible ask for his website, his e-mail, his Facebook, his first born and his twitter.
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers . Even if you don't write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
