The Limerick Writers' Centre Presents The April 2015 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering Tuesday 7th April. 2015 @ The Loft Venue @ The Locke Bar , Georges Quay, Limerick. Start 8.00pm sharp! This months guests are Cork poet Patricia Walsh and poet Mícheál O’Siochrú. Mícheál O’Siochrú is a native of Baile an Sceilg Gaeltacht, South Kerry. He has written extensively in the Irish language and has had two collections of poetry and a novel published by Coiscéim. His poetry has won various Oireachtas prizes as well as first prize at Listowel Writers’ Week. A renowned Irish teacher, he has taught in Rosary Hill and Vocational School, Castleconnell, Co Limerick, in Villiers, St. Clement’s and Limerick Tutorial Colleges as well as in Mary Immaculate College. The Limerick Writers' Centre Presents The March 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering Tuesday 5th March 2013 in The Loft Venue @ The Locke Bar, Georges Quay, Limerick. Start 8.00pm sharp! This month launch of Revival Literary Journal No.25 plus guest readers Fred Johnston and Mark Roper and open-mic. Fred Johnston was born in Belfast Northern Ireland,.educated there and Toronto, Canada, lived for a time in Spain and Africa and after that in Dublin. Currently he lives in Galway. He is author of a collection of stories from Parthian (Wales) 2011; and ‘Orangeman’, a collection of stories in French, from Terre de Brume (France) 2010. Johnston worked as a fulltime journalist, writer and sub-editor for some years for Irish Press. He teaches Creative Writing at NUIG (Adult Education). The Limerick Writers’ Centre presents July 'On The Nail' Literary Gathering Upstairs@Riddler’s Bar, Sarsfield St, Limerick Tues. 3rd July 2012 8.00pm This month our guest readers are: Patricia Byrne, Terry McDonagh and in association with Foras na Gaeilge Shaun Leonard Plus Gabhar Theatre Co return with another 10 Minute Play followed by an Open-Mic. Organised by The Limerick Writers' Centre this popular monthly reading and open-mic continues to attract audiences with a mix of poetry, prose and music. Patricia Byrne was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and currently lives in Limerick. She writes poetry, fiction and nonfiction and holds an MA in Writing from NUI Galway. Her interest in the nineteenth-century atrocity, which is the subject of her book The Veiled Woman of Achill, arose out of family history: her great granduncle served as a friar in Achill Island at the time and wrote a contemporary narrative of the dramatic events. Limerick Writers’ Centre Presents An ‘On the Nail’ Special Tues. 9th Nov 2010 8.00pm @The Locke Bar, Limerick. All Ireland ‘limericks’ Slam Championship Calling all poets and writers! The All Ireland ‘limericks’ Championship takes place Tues 9th Nov in The Loft Venue at The Locke Bar, George’s Quay Limerick…start time 8.00pm! The slam will take the form of a two round contest (so bring at least two ‘limericks’) and the verse must strictly follow the ‘limerick’ formula, it must also be of the performers own construction. The winners will be chosen by an appointed three person panel. The prize on offer is a trophy for the winner and two runner up prizes. If you want to participate, all you have to do is arrive on the night to the Locke Bar and give your name to the M.C.
