This month we present the first of our 1916 commemoration events with a performance of:
Breakfast with Padraig

“Breakfast with Padraig” is a Spoken Word performance lasting 50 minutes. It includes original stories and poems about 1916 from Conor and Colm. It includes poetry from Thomas McDonagh. These are performed live, to an accompanying filmed backdrop where the rising is discussed on themes of prelude, event and reflection. This discussion is tempered with song, personal experience and humour. It is apolitical and non-judgemental, rather raising questions and strands of thought that may enlighten and urge the audience to think more deeply about the reasons for and ramifications of the Rising. Issues such as the role of women in the Rising, the role of folksong in remembering the rising and parallels with Scottish History are addressed. Its aim is to display in an entertaining and narrative format the effects that 1916 have had on two citizens from opposite ends of the republic ( Cork and Leitrim) who were born around the time of the 50th anniversary celebrations in 1966. The theme being that every Irish person is an expert on what the Rising means to them.
Colm Scully and Conor McManus are published poets and short story writers with wide experience of performing in public. Colm’s first collection “What News, Centurions?” was published by New Binary Press in 2014. He won The Cuirt New Writing Prize in 2014 and was on The Poetry Ireland Introductory series 2014. He has had poems published in many Irish magazines and has been shortlisted for a number of writing competitions. He has performed at festivals and literary venues through -out Ireland.
Conor McManus has had pieces published in Crannog, Stinging Fly and The Moth. He has been shortlisted for the Fish Short story competition and received artists retreat bursaries from Leitrim County Council.
They have both represented Cork City Council and O’Bheal in a cultural exchange with Coventry, reading at numerous venues in England.
They have produced a number of poetry films, one of which was shortlisted for Indie Cork Film Festival Competition 2014. They have produced poetry films for other poets which may be viewed on line.
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers. Even if you don't write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
NOTE: Our special authors book table will again be in operation, so if you want your book, CD's etc publicised make sure you are represented on the table. Contact Dominic Taylor at 087 2996409 to make arrangements.

Thanks my friend for sharing these 'On the Nail' Literary Gathering event details. The event sounds just great. I really like attending such informative events. Last month I had been to four events at the domestic event space. All the events were just great.
