This month launch of Revival Literary Journal No 23 PLUS guest readers Kevin Higgins, Donal O’Flynn and Bríd Ní Mhóráin and Gabhar Theatre Co with another 10 minute play.
Kevin Higgins is best known for his dark, satirical poems. He published his first book review in The Galway Advertiser in June 1999. Reading Mentioning the War, it becomes obvious that Higgins is not like other critics. An enthusiastic advocate for the work of the new generation of poets who have emerged from Ireland’s thriving live poetry scene; he is also a merciless opponent of hypocrisy and pretentiousness wherever he finds it. His writing is overtly political in a way that draws comparison with George Orwell – the subject of two extended essays here. It would be impossible to agree with everything in this book; it is a book which often disagrees with itself. But on subjects as diverse as socialist poetry and neoconservatism, funding for the arts and the anti-war movement, Higgins informs, infuriates and entertains, as any good critic should.
Bríd Ní Mhóráin poetry collections are Ceiliúradh Cré (Baile Átha Cliath, Coiscéim, 1992); Fé Bhrat Bhride (An Daingean, An Sagart, 2002); and Siolta an Iomais (Gallimh, Clo Iar-Chonnachta Teo, 2006). A prosework, Thiar Sa Mhainistir Atá An Ghaolainn Bhreá (Cill Dara, An Sagart, 1997), is a recommended text book on the Irish course at UCC. She has been awarded Oireachtas prizes in 1988 and 1999 for her poetry, and in 1992 for her prose. More recently she has been awarded a research scholarship by Bord na Gaeilge (2000), and a bursary in Literature from the The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Éalaíon (2000). She lives in Kerry.
Donal O’Flynn comes from Charleville, Co. Cork. Married with three grown up children he was educated as an engineer at DIT Dublin and attained his MSc from Brunel University London.
He has been a regular attendee at poetry workshops and readings, and been published in numerous anthologies and journals.
He is the author of two poetry collections published by Revival Press “Lost Grace” and “The Tailor and Ansty Poem .When in Ireland - he is a regular attendee at the open-mic poetry sessions, at the White House Bar, and ‘On The Nail’, Limerick.
Donal is preparing a new collection of poems for publication in 2013.

Gabhar Theatre Company are back with another 10 minute play with cast: Grace Cronin, Shane Vaughan and Hugh O'Brien.
Everyone is invited to take part in the open-mic after the main event, poets, storytellers, musicians and writers . Even if you don't write you are welcome to bring something along to read. The night begins at 8.00pm and admission is free. So join us on the night and make this event something special.
